Tale - a porky/lie and to dog tail

I was stuck on 11a , could see that 'porky' is a lie - which is a 'tale' - and also had done all the rest of the clues so had T - L - looking at me , and could not see a better alternative than 'TALE'

However the 'dog needs to be picked up' bit as explained by mamya is still puzzling me and I would appreciate a bit more help with the parsing. Thanks in advance !

TALE sounds like (picked up) TAIL, which, as a verb, could mean "dog".

Sorry, I now see my reply was somewhat half-hearted , as said 'picked up' - heard.
