16A - .....go for shelled war zone (4) A??A. Must be AREA but how does it parse? NB - Answer to previous clue, 15A, is ERGO.

ARE ('go for', as in 'apples go for £1.70 a pound') + A ('shelled war', ie WAR with the outer letters removed). The definition is 'zone'.
