30d Abrasive movie icon, not nearly gay inside (4)

The 'thrill' is 7 letters ending with 'son'.
The (US) movie icon loses ('nearly GA[y]' from inside.

Haven't started on this yet but 30d is a 50s? male movie icon with 2/3 of gay removed making 'diamond fragments or dust...used as an abrasive' I think.

15a 'I'll have practice discontinued by law' (4) Only have the second (unch) letter missing and have scoured Chambers to no avail. Otherwise not the trickiest of Azeds, but there always seems to be one headscratcher!

The first letter is usually spelt with a 'J', granama1 - Latin can be rather strange alphabetically.

...it's the usual archaic version of 'practice'/use for the last 3 letters.

Hi drxx, I must have been tiring on my way through the alphabet for that second letter because the entry in Chambers isn't minuscule but your i/j hint got me there. Must add that use/practice word to my list of handy crossword setter tricks. Hadn't seen it before.
