I assume it is Inns but cannot see the parsing from the second part of the clue. Many thanks

Sorry bigdave that's stumped me too.
Also can't parse 36d: Answer cut from article about avoiding "hippy" type of language.
It's Afro-Asiatic. I can see the Afro (A and fro ie cut "from") but not the Asiatic.

StrangelyBrown, I think the 'hippy' would give Sciatic. 'About avoiding' = drop the C, circa, about.

Looks like it must be STONE AGE and can see how stage = theatre but not how one = joke.

Any assistance appreciated
