We all agree that the answer is Rifle BUT
Rifle and strip are not the same thing

Rifle = sort through, rummage roughly
Strip = remove

Penda, one of my dictionaries gives 'rifle; to steal' and 'strip; to steal'... so maybe OK, just?!

Good advice - keep your head down and only one eye open. Cros the road to avoid others. Ignore buses !!

Penda, I agree with the 'stretching' point - I found it an irritating clue, no cleverness at in it!

I'm a very clumsy person, so won't be following your advice - keeping my head down and only one eye open would be too hazardous.
