What a satisfying puzzle!

2 caused me to struggle and 32 caused a mild arching of the eyebrow.

But so many interesting words, and quite testing.

I normally finish this but am struggling in the bottom right hand corner.

Cold anyone give me a nudge with:
33 across About to eat abroad shown the way after reducing weight (8)
I have xExxxNED

Also 26 down
Non-standard currency, silver, foot from side to side (5)

This one carries a note that the plural form can be verified on the internet. My guess is that the sliver is AG and the foot is PES but why a non-standard plural?

Any help appreciated

Hi Williamseal,
33a is the German word for 'eat' in a word for 'shown the way'.
Def. is what you would be after reducing weight.

Your thinking about 26d. is correct.

Thanks Mattrom

Most helpful. I'm still puzzled about the warning on the plural on 26 down. Ah me

williamseal - it isn't the plural that's non-standard, it's the currency (shell money not being 'Accepted Everywhere'). The question that Azed is attempting to address with the note regarding 26d is whether PEAG is a countable noun (like 'coin') which has a plural, or an uncountable noun (like 'cash') which does not. The Chambers entry doesn't make this clear, nor do the examples in OED, but there are instances of the plural form PEAGS to be found on the web.
