Thanks see it now. The answer is also a town in “ the holy land” I think that’s what threw me.

I can't work out 11 ac) - Violent protest about von der Leyen etc being priviliged
The answer is easy enough, TOP SECRET, and I get the anagram of 'protest' . Maybe there's a 'c' chucked in for 'about' but how does von der Leyen fit in?
Any help appreciated.

If you take "Number" as meaning "song" it all falls into place.

Thanks Cerasus. Frankly I'd missed that news item so would never have worked the clue out fully.

I think people here are being harsh regarding the setter and this puzzle in particular.

Surely, Everyman is meant to be reasonably straightforward. I do the puzzle on a weekly basis because I can normally manage it! Like others I found the top half easier than bottom section. There were several anagrams but that seems fair enough to me. I don't try other crosswords which are probably beyond me!

I liked a number of clever clues. Surely, Clarkgwent is correct in his reasoning regarding Rocket Man. It is a "number" and "one" (a person) involved in re-entry. Beetroot..... Roe deer...Well-to-do....Nitty gritty... Drudgery...etc are fair cryptic efforts.

The fact that some clues are easier than others is fine by me.
