Too easy again this week. Disappointing.

Agreed. 22d especially poor.

Can't parse the answer to "Grey owl did (8)" though. Only one word fits but darned if I can find a connection.
A literary reference perhaps?

Seems hard to believe that was set by the same person as 22d.

I vaguely remembered reading it at school, a few years ago, but must admit I had to check.
