Thanks Matt. Guess I'm overthinking it. Nice homophone, but to my mind a singular answer would have been neater. Anyway, some great clues this week, I thought.

I cannot believe I finished it before 9 o'clock and a brisk frosty walk. Suggests to me it was a bit easy. Though not wanting to be a 22a . Probably too many anagrams or anagrams with giveaway letters. Glad to see a favourite movie at 1d. And I note one of the answers is just below this box!

Not bad this week, have to say I’d never heard of the homophone for 1ac so thanks to this thread for the parsing of that.

I liked 4ac and 26ac.

6d - letter salad!

Hywel 16d is a famous (now retired) actor whose double-barrelled name can be made from the stars of the two titles in the clue.

Trump has a plan, still yet to be fully instigated, to reduce immigration. If you were to voice your protest to that plan, it would sound the same as another phrase for smart alecs... 🙂

16 Surname of an actor - one part from a Calamity Jane actress, and the other from a Homeland actor.

22 what does Trump want to build?

It took me quite a while today, with 7d, 17d and 22a causing most of the problem.
I guess I'd've liked some sort of hint that 17d was a colloquialism.
Anyhoo, done now.

Can’t quite parse 23d. I think it is oddly seen followed by the lead character of Apple’s tablet device. This would to part of the full name of sperm oil. Unfortunately it isn’t an abbreviation for it, and doesn’t mean oil (but rather means “of whales” ie Gr genitive).

Am I on the wrong track? Or is it just an odd clue?
