I'm stuck on this clue: American bravery award for a card that has become discoloured? (6)

_ _ R _ _ _ I think the first letter is P and am pretty sure about the R.
I'm new to cryptic crosswords - many thanks for any suggestion that you can offer.

Purple (Heart) - and what could happen to your heart (a playing card).

Glad I could help - but I don't think it's a very good clue! If it's from a crossword, you'd expect the answer to be Purple Heart. If the answer is just to be 'Purple', then I'm sure there could be a better clue!
