In approaching this competition I adopt a brainstorming approach: let the mind run free and see what it produces, as evinced by my multiple entries (of variable quality) last week. This time it is clear that we are dominated by a more carefully focussed creativity: devise a clever and obtuse solution, polish it to perfection and throw down the challenge with a flourish. Why bother with additional attempts when the acme has already been achieved?
Thanks to all the usual suspects, who produced some cracking clues. We ended with 14 entries from 11 setters. I agree with chrises’ observation that people might have been put off entering by the quality of the early submissions.
I will not attempt a critique as I feel like a minnow among sharks in this company. I certainly was not aware that there were 100 fen to the yuan kt17!
Almost any entry could have been the winner but I have selected:
Skyewalker
Burns haggis, maybe? Chef takes one to Highland town (9)
(I was much taken by the “burns haggis”!)
I noted several references to the Chieftain tank. Any military out there? For those unfamiliar with the operation of tracked vehicles I offer a short clip of a Chieftain doing a neutral turn – a sometimes risky but impressive manoeuvre!

@SW, next Wednesday is Christmas so you might consider skipping a week. Also, please note that the next comp is #455
