Thanks! I learn so much by doing AZED ( largely from helpful people like you!) Merry Xmas.

As a result of your help I now have it finished (as in letters in all the squares). Whether they are the right letters remains to be seen.....

10d A rearrangement ('jostling') of the solution ('this old pretender') and the letter C ('see') can produce COURT IS. The answer is an obsolete meaning of the word 'pretender' (hence the 'old').
