Hi Myla, It's a semi &lit clue. The whole sentence refers to a 'Dalesman'

The parse is:

A = A
M = Masculine ( as F would be Feminine)
SE = South East (home counties)
Lad = boy

'Gone north = reverse the whole lot as it's a down clue.

Then put N (north) on the end.
