I forgot in my last post I couldn't quite explain 48a.

48a Eccentric Dickens characters starting on lamb and cheese (9),

The answer must be Cambozola. Boz is a Dickens character and ola is the first letters of On Lamb And. But where does Cam come from?

was "cam" a dickens character too?

A cam is an eccentric wheel, used, for instance, to raise and lower valves in an engine.

I think "Boz" was actually Dickens

Then why does the clue to Dickens characters - plural?

Eccentric is "cam", Dickens is "Boz", with the characters starting "o"n "l"amb "a"nd.
