A - ?N? A-ONE ?, but if so, don't see the parsing

Any help much appreciated

The (S)AONE is a French river

I had difficulties too. Any help would be appreciated.

Source of French river is outstanding, means that the first letter, source, of the river isn't there...and you're left with a phrase 1-3 that means 'outstanding' in another sense.
