Can anybody explain the word play in 13d - Fine old King taken with liberal, say (3,7). The answer is For Example but I cannot see how the clue works.

Thanks

Thanks Leslie

I don't like the abbreviation F for fine though!

Several clues like this in today's puzzle.

Does this help (from bookseller information)
F - fine
Almost as new. No major blemishes but the book has signs of being previously owned. The page edges will be clean, the contents sound, no major faults and any minor faults will be specified.

Hi Leslie

Yes I accept that F can be an abbreviation for Fine but it is pretty obscure. The setter also used S for Society and C for College in the same puzzle. I am sure that these are all used somewhere if you look hard enough but I feel they make very weak and not very satisfactory clues.

Anyway - rant over!
