I was referring to Prospero's first comment. Haven't got the hang of this yet!

nikki - in 12 the apostrophe is important; the lord was a runner. In 8 the European is a 2-letter abbreviation, one of which gets dropped.

Anyone notice anything of a theme here? It's a Qaos puzzle so there's always a theme, overt or covert, but I can't seem to spot anything this time.

Got the Lord, now, Prospero - which luckily endorses what I had penciled in!

Only one left (though I'm not sure I fully understand 24a).

I've got *O*O*E for 3d. I'm thinking on the lines of removing a letter from word two in the clue to get definition, but for the life of me I can't work out the rest to get an answer that fits.

Where am I going wrong?

you must have 12 wrong. But you're right to remove a letter from the second word.

Of course. I had all the elements but you nudged me to the necessary reorganisation. All done now.
