"Rather vulgar dons work with affected modesty." Answer PRUDISHLY: rudish = rather vulgar, I guess, but what about the rest?

Work = Ply (as in ply one's trade)

The "dons" bit had me stumped, but I guess that it means that you fit (i.e. don) PLY around RUDISH. Still think they could have done better, but thanks anyway.
