Most of the thematic answers are eluding me, as are 1a & 1d.

1 Down is an odd word, just an anagram. 1 A is a pretty straightforward definition, but it's not a word commonly used.

It's always better to give the clues - those here without a copy could help/attempt to help.

Doc having yet another Highland fling! Boring!

I quite enjoyed this one. I had to look up the route which was interesting. Some stops have next to no habitation nearby, only there for the huntin’, shootin’ and fishin’ brigade.

I’m trying to work out ferry and rail stops but non seem to fit...
Any more clues please?
