A more straightforward Paul than usual but still fun. Almost all finished but stuck on both 17ac -Vacuum-packed whiskey - I have --U-L-/U, and 17d Tobacconist inhaling good quantity of muck - I have --R-H-L-. Any help welcome.

Your R is incorrect. A tobacco brand around g(ood.)

Contained in the word 'vacuum', and 2 of them make a W(whiskey- phonetic alphabet.)

After a slow start, and initially making the same mistake as freddycat on 17D, I found it fairly easy. But I have just one left.

13A: Only four letters, and very few options to fit. But I can't parse any of them. The only connection with the Republication Party I can think of is George W Bush's strategist, and what he has to do with prayer I can't fathom. I am probably being thick, but help to dsperse the fog would be appreciated.

The prayer is the last three letters, fairly generic!

Hi Jaffra, it's the usual 1 letter abbr. for Republican followed by a 3 letter word for used in prayers (think .....Maria)
