I apologize for being late. I'm ready to post but am having internet problems. I'll be brief when I can get online for more than a minute.

As usual, I enjoyed reading all of these. Favorite touches are the image evoked by nemo @18 and the conciseness of bigbad and dorrien @26 and 30. Although I’d prefer “as” to “when” in this week’s winning clue, I can’t gainsay mattrom’s cleverness @25 with:

I love this place, but it’s scarily remote. We left it at 6:00 one morning and drove eighty miles before we passed (or saw) another car, although there were lots of little owls and scorpions and roadrunners.

@ fiery; your "H?" has me intrigued. The nearest I got was "the end of the earth" but I always thought it was ends and with the "h" being capitalised, mmm !
