Hi folks, time's up. Thanks to the 9 of you for submitting clues. Apologies if this has proved to be a tough challenge as that was certainly not my intention. I've not had a chance to peruse the entries before now so I might be a bit of time before posting the result.

I thought the challenge offered plenty of anagram potential as was admirably demonstrated by penda in one clue. Perhaps it wasn't easy to incorporate these and a suitable definition with a smooth surface but I did like paul's purified with sparkling, his imaginative anagrind @22, fiery's use of law as in physics and tyke combining it with ref.
Other touches I like include kt's aft er (perhaps even more so with a synonym of glow), mattrom's hangover & Jagger compilation, paul's rear of the Queen and tyke's double entendre Big Bang.
I'm a big Adams fan so I'm aware of luffness chrise and I think it would have provided a really good pdm on solving if it was combined with suitable wordplay (I do appreciate that's subjective). sunray @ 20 reads very well but I'm not a fan of words "doing double duty", here circling, so reluctantly passed over (@6 I don't feel "good" sits right in the surface). No problem being slightly late jws, glad you made the effort. I'm assuming it's (David) Gower and other than including a "ghost" anagram as there's no specific reference, it comes together well "cricket wise" and is obviously topical. There's a lot I like with tyke @ 11 though I'd prefer to see something like "later" there.
My winner has me returning the baton to aristo with his @ 17 (with or without the comma)

Post-coital condition, observed when cigarette's finished?

Congrats aristo and thanks ginge, particularly for the detailed critique of the clues (mine was only a token entry, really - I'll have to miss tomorrow again).

Well done Aristo - thanks for a tough challenge Ginge. Appreciate the lovely clip and the mention - I (very) briefly toyed with a clue based on Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation but went for Big Bang šŸ’„
