Hi ixion

Agree with your answers.

7d A brownie is a type of cake - 'square of rich cake with nuts' according to COED, originally from USA but I've seen them in coffee shops in UK.
B - Bishop; RE - note; OWNI - to have one.

16d Am also puzzled by this, ANT = worker obviously but Everyman seems to equate SAFE with excellent which I find odd.

Can you explain 22ac? Got answer from crossing letters and 'bellringer' but why Low Sunday?

Must say that's a new one on me - strange what you can learn from crosswords!

Safe certainly was slang for excellent in South Wales a few years ago but I've not heard it elsewhere.

Thanks for the explanation, 7d had me stumped. I'm learning more and more about opera doing these crosswords: opera seria yesterday, opera buffa today!

I got 16d, but was very surprised by the used of (relatively) modern slang. Loved 12a and 18d, a very enjoyable puzzle.
