Solon, so lon(g). greeting seems a bit weird as it's usually a parting comment.

But how does the setter assume that 'So long' is a greeting ?

Thanks, Ginge and Shooty. My Collins gives 'to send a message of friendship to' as one of the definitions for 'greet', so the clue seems OK.
