Please help me understand!
9across must be skull, as in head, but how do get that from row reported?

You don't give the full clue..,,
But "skull" sounds like "scull", as in "row"

Thanks Elle, it makes sense now. I'd thought of scull but was reading 'row' as meaning argument or straight line so didn't make sense. Never thought of it as rowing (a boat), hence scull.
