I don't see that the preamble really means what it says, unless I'm filling my grid completely wrongly. 'Either' means one of two, so the preamble appears to say that each entry starts going left or right, then down. It doesn't mean that each entry can start going down then go left or right, but some entries have to go down first (eg 1 and 3).

I don't see that an L shape is a zig-zag. It zigs but it doesn't zag.

I seem to be talking to myself here. I suppose everyone's gone over to the other side. Pity.
