Other crosswords don't seem to generate multiple threads, people just add on to the existing thread. Just wondering why we need so many every week for this one?

And, yes, I realise that this post makes it 6 threads this week! :-)

Some solvers need just one or two hints / answers and may see some answers (spoilers) they do not want to see when entering a long tnread. IMHO

The record number that I remember was 16 different threads on a Times puzzle - I can't remember if it was Saturday or Sunday.

Simond9x, I think some solvers start a new thread because they want help only with one or two clues - and don't want to come across other answers. Brendan starts a thread most weeks - that's mainly a discussion one (sparked off by that spell of really awful puzzles, I think!). Other solvers start a new thread for each query, regardless of the puzzle!

PS I seldom do Everyman, so am a fairly objective bystander!

Yes, a poster starting a new thread for each question on the same puzzle is even more irritating!

Good points (re spoilers). I do the Listener and hate accidentally seeing spoilers when I just need a nudge. The Listener generally has 2 threads - one for 'vague' hints; the other possibly containing explicit answers.

As Malone has pointed out, and many of you will already be aware, early Sunday morning I start what is ostensibly a discussion thread on that week's Everyman crossword. This means, it could be argued, I have a vested interest in the subject so will tread carefully in expressing my opinion on the subject of numerous threads.

Whilst it is true that my thread is, in the main, a discussion of the clues rather than the more common question and answer type, I would like to stress that any solvers wanting answers or hints to specific questions are more than welcome, in fact I would go as far as to say they are thoroughly encouraged to take part.

Of course, I'm not in any way saying it should my thread that all this happens on, just that, in my opinion, I think that the fewer the number of threads, the better.

Thanks, Brendan. Even though Everyman isn't one of 'my' crosswords, I do like seeing the chatter and exchange of views triggered off by your thread. The Forum can, of course, have as many Everyman threads as people start, but seeing six or seven can be a bit of a pest - just because these take up so much room on the opening/main page.

I agree with Malone. Some people want help with specific clues, so why not? It avoids spoilers for those poor s**s (Overdose between sleeps to deal with pieces of earth (4)), who only want limited help. On the other hand I can understand why that can lead to irritation when the same question comes up more than once on different threads. Tolerance for a situation in which there are no right answers?
