Hi Bazotto, the intersection with 40 does not contain an E. The clue is a pretty straight forward anagram meaning less mature.

This is one that I was able to complete - the clues were about right for me and the theme most suitable. Well done to the setter. Let's throw a bone to the fourth division occasionally.

Regarding the cleverness or otherwise of the grid construction, I agree with smithsax and 0pt0.
The jumble at 8dn tied-in to the correct ordering of the thematic material certainly compensates for the asymmetry in my opinion, and to split the entries exactly half and half is quite an achievement under the circumstances.
The unching wasn't too bad - in fact it erred on the generous side - and, although the cluing was easy, the resulting answers were a tougher set than usual.

No quibbles from me - thanks Stick Insect, I enjoyed this one.

Thanks bambi, my youth was heading in the wrong direction! For my final act of begging, will someone please give me the unches for 17 and 30? I'm finding my way around these puzzles at last but still struggling to complete those which most of you consider easy. Maybe in a couple of years time...

They were my last two as well. P and E. About the 4th definition in chambers for 30 is something related to flying regularly in the evening, remarkably..

I agree entirely - it was probably harder to set than to solve, as after the first couple of acrosses had been found the title made it easy to guess what was going on. (although I needed to solve a lot more before I realised that the names were in the exact order.)
