I'm really struggling with this perhaps if someone could provide me with the answer to 50 across I might be able to push on.
Seize the chance to linger canal-side? Without warning of course.
(4,4,2,3,8) ????/????/??/???/???e?o?k

Take Time By The Forelock - an old saying (that I've never heard of!)

Take Time, linger, By The Lock, canal-side.
Take Time By The Forelock has Fore, warning, inside.

I should have said, the saying must mean 'Seize the chance'.

Ftsalmon, you're welcome. I've just checked Chambers and the phrase is in there. I don't think I'll be using it any time soon!

You have my sympathy ftsalmon, I thought this was dreadful. The clue you highlight is typical - the answer being a phrase that literally no one ever uses.
I gave up having completed about a quarter of the puzzle.
