Thanks, syzygy and Sunray. That was a lovely start to the day. I like puzzles that seem tough to start with but come together nicely.

Thanks again syzygy & sunray, enjoyable but I felt quite a few clues lacked the usual polish. 11d I think is a bit iffy as I don't see "stores" as an anagrind and if the whole clue is (&lit ish ?) then "stores" could be superfluous. I might well be missing something and would be grateful for "putting right".

Ginger, I see what you mean about 'stores' in 11 D, though I didn't notice it this morning. Maybe it should have been Storer, and the preceding word would have been the anagram indicator?

Hi malone, I also considered that but that wouldn't really make sense surface wise but as I've already stated I thought the usual polish was lacking in a lot of clues.

Thanks for that, Ginge. I didn't notice a lack of polish in the clues - but that could be because I solved this in a hurry as I was heading out early.

I agree with ginge.

Unusual anagram indicator in 31a is gathering, 33d is tormentor.

I don't see "stores" as the anagrind in 11d. You re-sort stores to get the answer. I thought 7d was up to par! Fun. Thanks, syzzie and sunray.

Oh, duh. Yeah, I think he just made a mistake, since resort is an acceptable anagrind.

This kind of thing happened once before, I think: a wrong letter, plain old error.
