17 down: Heading away, the solver set off in boat (9)

I have o?t?i?g?r - it looks like answer is outrigger, but I would be pleased if someone could parse it for me. Thanks in advance.

Solver (heading/first letter away) - (y)OU

Set Off = TRIGGER

I put outrigger for the same reasons as Brenden, but I looked it up on dictionary.com and most of the definitions referred to something attached to a boat, rather than the boat itself.

"in boat" = "attached to boat" = "outrigger"
