Hi people on this grey bank holiday weekend. I can't parse 20 down but would posit SIMMER as being after heated period as opposed to SUMMER but have no idea why...

Bazotto, I think Summer, heated period, is right. Summoner would be the caller, remove (dismissed) 'on', which means 'just after' (it's in Chambers).

Malone, many thanks for the explanation which indeed makes sense. I was throwing the alternative into the discussion merely as I couldn't parse any possible answer! I'm still not as proficient as I'd like to think I am and am always happy to learn from the many helpful people on this site.
