Could someone please parse 1 across for me:

Morally corrupt equivalent of ten depressions? (8)

The answer is decadent.

Would be grateful for help in this. Thanks in advance. Roger

The clue has depressions not depression: does that matter?

Hi rogerjw I spotted that difficulty and it ought to matter dont you agree. The same "slip" in another clue might prevent one ever getting completion.

Hi Roger, I hadn't noticed the plural but now that you point it out it does seem odd.

Hi Thea, It's VAN around I. I left the newspaper in Waitrose but If I remember correctly the definition is to do with something being "in vain"

17, is "van" around "I" for "India", giving "vain".
