I had this clue: 8. self-starter?
and the answer was her.
I can see it, but also himself, itself, yourself, etc. You may say "required by context." But crossword helper sites all gave "her" and none of the others. I am puzzled how this works.

The same clue has also been answered as 'one' and 'him'
depending on which answer fits the grid.
