16 Across - "It's slated to start with a little foray to Slough" (7)

21 Across- "Usurer a variable left appalled!" (7) S---O--

21a. Shylock, (y + l) in shock.

16a. Looks like trashed (slated);
t(o) + ra(m) ? + shed

Hi stevie gee, I thought about ra(id) but I'm used to puzzles where such an indicator usually means "lose the last letter" but I gather this has its own rules.
