This is a great answer to the linkword , but there is not a letter "i" in the word.
The letter would be the forth letter along

Either _ _ _ "O" __ _
_ _ _ " N' _ _
or _ _ _ " W" _ _

RUNWAY would fit one of the letter patterns shown. Runway model is quite a well known phrase but Project runway is an American reality TV series so I don't know if they'd use it in a UK crossword.
