Pabulum has sunk me - for the first time I cannot complete a speccie puzzle. Some good clues but many are not yet solved.Unusually, no other posts as yet- is this because the puzzle is easy and I am on a wrong track with my seven?

Truron, I did find it a pretty easy puzzle - sorry!

It took me a while to find the diagonal name, but otherwise after finding the 'very fair lady' anagram it was fairly straightforward.

I nearly always complete the Spectator but I only managed to solve 9 clues after looking at it on and off over the weekend and then giving up. And the ones I got include TABRET, TOLSELS and ALBINESS. So goodness knows what the other answers are.

Hi orson, if my memory is correct the preamble states the group name is an anagram of the last answer you've listed and a decent anagram solver should throw this out as there are very limited possibilities. This will then greatly help with the perimeter should you still have the puzzle and the inclination to retackle it.

Orson, I'm surprised you found it tricky - but maybe I was just on the setter's wavelength!

Hi ginge and malone. I've just had another look before putting it in the recycling bin and I've solved a couple more. Funnily enough I was chatting to my naunt earlier today (she's an albiness) about how the tankia have an estro for tolsels. Are there any everyday words in this crossword? I got 18d early on and I wondered whether the crossword was about a group of seven renowned lesbians. (But the preamble did say two words.)

Actually, I have got the heptad now so that's enabled me to fill the perimeter. I might be able to finish before bedtime and dreamland.

Orson, thanks for reminding me of the odd words - quite a selection. Some of them were quite gettable - honestly!
