31d: Authority in east London built square (3-9)
I have **d - *a*h*o*e*
I get that square means old-fashioned but can’t parse it. I get a few “almost anagrams.”

I think it's...

'OLD (Authority = Hold = 'Old in East London/Cockney)

FASHIONED (Built)

Hold = authority, East London = 'Old
add Fashioned, built.
Old Fashioned, square.

53a "Poles brought in money for viola" (5)

P?N?Y Pansy is a member of the viola family, but if so don't see the parsing.

Any help much appreciated.

I'm afraid I'd only slow you down, Malone - typing with more than one finger seems to be something I just can't master :-(
