3d is a double definition. Go for the straightforward reading first: a male attached to a palindromic female. Like 9a the reference is biblical.

I'm puzzled by 21d, For instance they include ant since also an insect. I have ??A?R?M? and Quick Solve gives me just two possible solutions, one to do with images and one with crosswords, but I see neither of them in the clue. What am I missing?
