Thank you malone and shooty. I do indeed remember the comic. The earliest issues included tempters. My favourite was a square of thin cardboard with a triangle of brown paper which would make a tremendous bang!

16d "Nothing coming in when delivery happened, track item without a name" (6)

D?O?R? Am I right in thinking cricket delivery for this? If so can't see the parsing

Any help appreciated

I'm not sure of the parsing - I'm not doing this puzzle - but it looks to me as if the definition is 'item without a name'.

Yo are right about the definition, malone. Delivery here is referring to date of birth

I got this answer from th3e anagram, but I'm not sure what it has to do with dangerous resposibility.

Roof, that's what the answer means - the definition, about dangerous responsibility, is in Chambers.

Thanks Malone

I didn't find it in my Chambers. It just said it was to flare out the bottom of a bell!

I'm struggling with this one. I still have quite a few to do in the top right. Any hints for 23,12 might help. I have S???E T?? ?????

I'm having trouble parsing lots of them.
I have two [ossible answers for 3d with crossers E?P?E?S. Neither of them seem likely. Are my crossers right?

Roof, my Chambers (13 ed) says, ' to undertake the leading part in any hazardous enterprise, from the fable of the mice who proposed to hang a warning bell round the cat's neck.'

I don't do the Guardian crossword and don't have a copy, so can't help with the clues you've mentioned.

Hi Roof. Sorry this is a bit late but your E in 3D is wrong. It is a “typical” Paul clue, if that helps. 1a your definition is at the end.
