You wouldn't drive the car on the road!

It parses as a double definition so I don't think it's ''terrible'.
Chambers has bumper - unusually large

Glad I could help, playbus. I thought it was an OK clue - it was fair, if not scintillating!

I was a bit dubious. I've heard the cars called "bumping cars" or "dodgems", but not "bumpers".

I don't usually do the Everyman, as Sunday mornings are golf, but was rained off today. A couple of rather loose clues, I thought (30a and 13d)

I've always know them as 'bumper cars' and Chambers has
bumper car - a Dodgem. What I'd give to have a go in one right now !

I too have always known them as 'bumper cars' - that's what triggered my hint. I never liked them, too many crash, bang, wallops for my sensitive nature!
