Could you show the patter please.

This is a rung of a word ladder, in which each has exactly five letters in common with the adjacent one. The adjacent words are NOT indicated, apart from a few checkers. I have SOMITE (?????t) [word clued] (i?????) APiCES PARSeC - in the latter pair I show the common letters in capitals.
So I just need the answer to the clue to enable me to deduce the other missing words.
