Hi!
I'm a newbie on the forum and have lots of questions about constructing crossword clues.
How do members feel about RELEASED as an anagrind?
I can't find it in any online lists.

Sorry - drat my stubby figers! The thread title should read "clues".

Hi Pedagogue, welcome to the forum. Do you mean 'Released' as an anagram indicator?

Anagrind is abbrev. for anagram indicator.

1001 listed here, but I have not seen "released" used as far as I can recall.

Whilst certain anagram indicators are universally accepted ('broken up'. 'rearranged'), many others are on the fringes of acceptability; generally blocked puzzle editors are more tolerant of questionable indicators such as "perhaps" than their barred puzzle counterparts. I have never used 'released' myself, but since 'relaxed' is usually seen as valid then you could certainly argue based on the Chambers definitions of the two words that it should be (just about) ok. If I am unsure about a particular indicator, I tend to go to the Azed archive at:

http://www.andlit.org.uk/azed/search2.php

and search the Azed competition clues for the word in question to see if Azed has ever allowed it - absence of a word is not a definite contraindication, but presence suggests that it is acceptable.

I didn't realise that such comprehensive lists were available. I can't find ' released' in any but did come across 'for release' in the Independent crossword no. 8248, clue no. 14 down.

Hi!
Thanks for the help.
The word is LUSTRES and I wanted the clue to be "Glows when results released"
cerasus - I use that list regularly and often; if I come across any extras I add them to it on my PC.
jacknatter - thanks for the link; I'll be poring over it later.
brendan - great! That helps me a lot.

I think that is a very well worded clue Pedagogue and, were I to encounter it in a crossword, would certainly not think it was unfair.

You could consider 'broadcast', 'distributed' or 'put out' as alternatives, since they all more explicitly suggest scattering or displacement.

I had got as far as "broadcast" and your other suggestions are great!
