itsme - 4 letter word for 'excitement' inside 3 of 4 letter word for 'yield' - 'trimmed' as in given short measure perhaps.
7 letter word for a cookery term (uncooked meat/fish) around 'I' - my answer is not what scorpiojo is suggesting but a name for a 'hellish place'.

Oh Jo, I'm really disappointed that you didn't know that one - it appeared in Spenser's translation of Virgil's 'Culex' (The Gnat)...though admittedly that was in 1588 and, as far as I'm aware, like the Spanish Armada it hasn't been seen since ;-)
