I'm feeling a bit stupid with this one. My grid is almost full. I've identified 12 superfluous letters plus one clue with 2 possibilities. I've got 3 definite and 1 possible superfluous words. I can see 2 pairs of linked characters in the unclued entries plus one other character. But I have absolutely no idea what's going on!! I can't see any superfluous words (or indeed ANY words) that cryptically link my 2 pairs of linked characters. I'm not looking for help (yet!) but wondered if anyone else is having similar problems?

Yes, almost identical - I have almost all the unthemed grid, 3 or 4 likely superfluous (cryptic) words, most of the superfluous letters and a couple of links but no threesomes. The forest cryptic word could go either way for me - to link with 2d or with what I assume 22a must be ....

I assume that my assumed 22a links with my assumed 7d but can't see any word that cryptically links them. But, then again, you know what they say about "assume"........!

A-ha! I think I can see what's going on now.

I've got at least three plausible answers to 'Sect member increasingly unsteady (6)', giving o, u and h as the last letter of 2 down. I'm guessing h is the right one? Still can't fathom the theme...

well I have a poet - and a tennis player, plus another couple of Christian names. Not sure if any of those are right and can't get the third parts ....
