It's always good to give the clue - some people/solvers don't have a copy but enjoy the chance to help. I don't do the Guardian or Telegraph puzzles, but I like it when people post clues.

6 A. Old-fashioned sweetheart's somewhere in France (2,4)
Le Mans, a place in France. Leman is an old word ('old-fashioned') for 'sweetheart'. The clue has 'sweetheart's', so add an S.

Oho! Le Mans most helpful, that just leaves 20A “Hit Big Tree(3,5)” B** E*D*R

I’m figuring ‘Box Elder’ but ‘Elder’ for ‘Big’ looks dodgy?..

Comments anyone?

Yes, Colin, I think it's fine, and more importantly so do the dictionaries!
