Finished the Christmas jumbo crossword but can't parse one clue that is bugging me terribly. ;-)

Has to be RED FLAG but darned if I can see why.

I am in the same position, timdownieuk except that there are two I can't parse. I don't have the paper with me, but the other is about a dead man's handle. The answer seems to be shut off. I can't parse it, apart from putting the t in front of off to give toff.

21 SH = shorthand U = socially acceptable
TOFF = upper class person

Thanks norrier. I was also struggling with 34a. Last one for me. 97a Close stairways have these issues (5). I have w?l?s. I am thinking wells as in stair wells but cannot tie it in to the rest of the clue. Any help appreciated
