What a stinker of a crossword for Boxing Day. Some really obscure words, some pretty dubious definitions, and some fairly sloppy clues.

Finally cracked it (I think) apart from 42 across:

Bash in the Turk's head perhaps to be put back (4).

The letters I have (and I'm pretty sure they're both correct) are T - N -

Knot, a Turk's head is one.

Sorry, then reverse it - Tonk, I assume that means 'bash' or 'bash in'.

Thanks. So does that mean the answer is TONK (whatever that means)?

I had to check - 'tonk' means 'to hit hard'.
