Can I have some help please on 12across 5 and 8

First letters of second word is RA (artist).

I couldn't 100% parse it though.

Can someone help me parse this:

Loud and clear, after end of appointment, getting told to go outside = STRIDENT

But why?

Def. = LOUD

End of (appointmen)T + RID (Clear) inside SENT (Told to go)

Ps I thought it was very clever the way the setter used a very familiar saying and collocation, (Loud and Clear), to disguise the definition - it was a while before I realised one needed to 'Lift and separate'.

I have at least one word which matches the definition "animal", but can't see how the clue gets us there!
