I have been agonizing about this clue all day

"Girl from South America - Republican's 'Tail'" (5 letters)

I think the answer "LATIN" makes the most sense since the "tail" or end of the word "Republican" is N, put it together with tail and you get Latin, but there's nothing to indicate an anagram, plus where does the word girl come into it?

I've been trying all sorts of ways of solving this crossword with no success. Any ideas?

Do you have any crossers?
Might it be SUSAN?
S - south
USA - America
N as you suggest

Any ideas about these?

16a "Public land pulverized - shared by Donald and Kim?" (6,6)

The second letter is an O

And this one

22/1a "Vociferous flier shows strain, having infection" (4,6)

second letter of the 4 letter word an O?

"ground" is "pulverized" (as in "ground almonds", for example)

I was wrong, I didn't read the other one properly it's one of those multiple section clues. The full clue is

1a see 22a "Historic city Trump "started" – "none better" (3,4)

and then

22/1 "Vociferous flier shows strain, having infection" (4,6)

Oh lord, I got it wrong again they had both the clue of 1a and 4a on the same line so in actuality the clue should be

4a "Historic city Trump "started" – "none better" (3,4)

and

22/1a "Vociferous flier shows strain, having infection" (4,6)

Sorry for that
